Belonging, Believing, Building a Future

The Reception Class is a class of nineteen lively children aged 4 and 5.

They all joined St Peter's in September 2016 having attended a range of pre-school settings. Mrs Godfrey is the class teacher and Mrs King teaches the class on Fridays. Mrs Morris is the full-time teaching assistant. Mrs Chapman, Mrs Honour and Ms Lawton are also teaching assistants who sometimes work in the Reception Class, supporting the children's learning.

The curriculum for the Reception underpins all future learning by supporting, fostering, promoting and developing the children’s learning in the seven areas of the Reception curriculum.

All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected.  Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas, the prime areas, are:

  • communication and language;
  • physical development; and
  • personal, social and emotional development.

The four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied are:

  • literacy;
  • mathematics;
  • understanding the world; and
  • expressive arts and design
